Eye of the Pacific Guide Dogs Foundation

Mission Statement

To provide quality guide dogs, electronic mobility aids, and other services to legally blind residents of the State of Hawaii and neighboring U.S. territories that will empower them to lead safe, independent, and meaningful lives, and to educate the general public on laws and etiquette relating to guide dog accessibility.

Management Statement

Subject to our bylaws, our Board of Directors will manage our organization honestly and ethically creating an environment of trust, empowerment, respect and mutual support building and improving on the organization entrusted to our care, working together as a team leveraging Board's talents and skills in a spirit of cooperation and trust, being fiscally responsible, keeping administrative costs low while ensuring the highest possible quality services to our consumers.

Board of Directors

The board of directors consist of nine (9) members of which 1/3 is held by qualified blind or visually impaired individual. the board meets regularly every month and holds their annual meeting every january.

The board of directors is always seeking individuals willing to bring to the foundation skills and experience that will help to achieve our mission.

Eye of the Pacific Guide Dogs Foundation Board of Directors are expected to contribute to the foundation in the following ways:

Regularly attend board meetings

Participate in effective communication in a professional, courteous and timely manner

Demonstrate support for Eye of the Pacific Guide Dogs Foundation by promoting its good work, generating goodwill for the foundation, encouraging support for its efforts, and keeping informed about its programs and activities

Contribute knowledge and skills in at least one area listed below that is essential to Board governance
Help promote Eye of the Pacific Guide Dogs Foundation visibility and advocate for its programs

Help develop Eye of the Pacific Guide Dogs Foundation's financial or other resources

Participate in reviewing and approving an annual budget for the foundation and reviewing its revenues and expenses on a quarterly basis to ensure that Eye of the Pacific Guide Dogs Foundation's mission is being upheld and its finances are managed in a sound and ethical manner

Participate in the hiring and annual evaluation of the executive director

Participate in Eye of the Pacific Guide Dogs Foundation events, award ceremonies and fundraising meetings

Set procedures and policies to ensure that the foundation is organized and managed in an accountable, fair and systematic manner and is in compliance with applicable laws

    Individual Eye of the Pacific Guide Dogs Foundation Board performance is annually evaluated using the following criteria:

    2. Act on behalf of the foundation and its interests, putting aside personal concerns, affiliations or constituencies

    3. Serve on at least one Board committee or division

    4. Make an annual personal financial contribution to Eye of the Pacific Guide Dogs Foundation

    5. Help staff to promote Eye of the Pacific Guide Dogs Foundation's good work and visibility, introducing the foundation to new communities, corporate sponsors, foundations, media and potential partners

    6. Contribute expertise in particular areas of nonprofit management, governance, finance, membership, or other areas that may advance Eye of the Pacific Guide Dogs Foundation's mission and strategy
