Where does your money go? Your donations will help us meet the following typical costs that we incur while supporting our clients
Guide Dog Training Program One (1) guide dog training program costs $45,000.00 This includes one (1) fully trained guide dog and work gear, four (4) weeks of training tuition and air fare to the training center located in New Zealand or Australia. The years of service depend largely on the level of work each dog provides. Our dogs generally work up to eight (8) to ten (10) years.
After Care Program In order for our guide dogs to maintain their high level of job performance, a follow up assessment is conducted by one of our guide dog instructors twice a year. Such concerns addressed during these important sessions include growing change in behavior due to aging and job related stress, traffic re-enforcement, animal distractions and a whole lot more. Each follow up visit costs $5,000.00 and serves all active guide dog teams and guide dog training candidates.
Guide Dog Health Care Program This program provides financial support for our handlers to help maintain the high cost of veterinary care and serves all of our active and retired guide dogs. This program operates under a current budgetof $15,000.00 an is partly funded by the Allen Eldin and Agnes Geiger Fund. This program supports regular veterinary wellness care and catastrophic incidents.
Electronic Aids Program Technology used by individuals who are blind are costly and often times, these individuals are not able to afford the cost of a device that would enhance their independence in travel and communication. We invite you to visit our electronic aids page to gain more information.
